2011 cruze 1lt temperature display problem

I bought a 2011 Cruzs 1LT in 12/7/10. After having it for some time and done long trips with it I find it to be very comfortable to drive. It has a solid ride that reminds me a bigger cars. Mileage is very good in the thirties even with the a/c on. In fact it makes very little difference if the a/c is on or off. The only problem that I have found is that the outside temperature display seldom works. I exchanged email with the GM people and then had it tested at Power Chevrolet in Peoria, AZ and all they say is that the "AMBIENT TEMP SEEMED TO BE OPERTING AS DESIGNED" I can go for days without the temperature display changing from the temp displayed when I start the car in the mornings. Only if I get on a highway and go over 50mph does the display changes and gives me a reading. "Operating as designed" does not cut it with me. Obviously there is some serious problems with the design if it does work like it should. GM didn't make any offers to see if the problem could be fixed. Has anyone else have the same kind of experience? Please let me know.

I agree with you 100%. Something is definitely wrong with mine as well. I bought a 2011 1LT earlier this month. I noticed today driving around that the temperature read 93 when it was actually 81 according to my senses and Yahoo weather. So my wife and I started paying attention to it and it was bouncing around dropping from 93, 92, 91, 90, 89, 88 in a matter of about five minutes. Right when we thought it was correcting itself it started heading back up to 93. In about a month I'll be ready for my first oil change (I commute 100 miles per day) and will address this issue with Chevy then. I'll let you know if I come up with anything (i.e. Technical Service Bulletin.)

I'm having the same temperature reading problem now too. It's been 93 all day according to my cruze LT. Have a call into the tech people at GM.

I actually encountered the same scenario and I didn't know what causes the problem. I had it checked by a mechanic and he adviced that something was wrong with the fuel level sending unit. Have you considered this to be a possible cause?
